Alchera is looking for great new people to join us and work alongside our experienced and specialist teams to unlock the next wave of data-driven infrastructure. Working with us means working in an energetic and driven start-up environment with a team of exceptionally talented colleagues, in a position to shape the future of transport and the built environment.

As a Software Engineer you will be designing and implementing data pipelines and applications across the stack, powering data-driven decision making in transport infrastructure 🛣️

Examples of what you will work on:
  • Building web applications that allow users to interact with and understand mobility data. For example allowing users to analyse bus delay so they can optimise bus routes, or predicting traffic flows so they can plan road maintenance.
  • Develop data connectors and pipelines to process sensor feeds or integrate with third-party platforms.
  • Integrate real-time streaming analytics and machine learning into our data platform.
Our stack:

Some of the lanuages and frameworks we use:

  • Web Applications: React, Typescript, Vert.x & Kotlin
  • Data Pipelines: Python, Snowflake DB, Dagster, DBT & Kafka
  • Platform: Kubernetes, AWS & Terraform
You should apply if:
  • You’re a generalist; happy to dive into anything, whether its writing backend data pipelines and connectors, building React UI web applications, or doing ad-hoc data analysis.
  • You’re looking to work for a start-up! You can thrive in an environment where outcomes aren’t always clearly defined, responding to change and helping shape the software features that we ship to our customers.
  • You have experience developing modern web applications and can write excellent production-quality code with a strong foundation in software best practice, testing, mocking and debugging.
Bonus skills you might have:
  • You are proficient in writing Python or data pipeline development.
  • Familiarity with the frameworks and languages in our tech stack.
  • Experience with DevOps and cloud providers like AWS.
  • Experience working with time-series, location-based data.
  • Experience handling mobility data (e.g. GTFS, SIRI-VM, DATEX 2).
Key information:

Location: Hybrid, UK (Monthly team co-working days in London or Cambridge)
Preferred start date: ASAP
Duration: Permanent / Full Time
Salary range: £60-80k, including employee share options commensurate with experience.
